Formula and methodology
Formula: Remove separators from the selected numeric date order and compare the string with its reverse. The next palindrome is found by checking each following Gregorian calendar date up to the entered search limit.
A palindrome date depends on the displayed numeric order, not only the calendar date. The checker makes the format explicit and searches real valid dates so a visually symmetric string cannot be created from an impossible month or day.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Date
- Numeric date format — 3 choices
- Forward search limit — days; minimum 0; maximum 200000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Date | 2001-10-02 |
| Numeric date format | yyyy-mm-dd |
| Forward search limit | 36500 |
20011002 is a palindrome in YYYYMMDD order, so the entered date is marked as a match.
Assumptions and limits
- Dates use the Gregorian calendar and the browser’s date field contract.
- The selected format determines the digits that are tested for symmetry.
- Separators are removed before the palindrome comparison.
- Leading zeroes remain part of month and day fields.
- The forward search includes the day after the entered date through the limit.
- A result is not claimed when no valid date is found within the selected limit.
- Calendar reform history, Julian-calendar dates, and locale-specific punctuation are outside the model.
- The date format is a display convention and does not change the underlying calendar date.
- The page does not rank dates by cultural importance or claim predictive meaning.
- A long search limit is bounded to keep browser work predictable.
