Formula and methodology
Formula: Human-equivalent age = bird age × human reference lifespan ÷ reference bird lifespan. Life lived percentage = bird age ÷ reference bird lifespan × 100. Human years per bird year = human reference lifespan ÷ reference bird lifespan.
Birds vary widely in lifespan, so this page uses the visitor's documented or chosen species reference instead of pretending that one multiplier applies to every bird. The result is a proportional comparison, not a biological age, veterinary stage, or prediction of remaining life.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.

Assumptions and limits
- Bird age is chronological age in completed or fractional years.
- The reference lifespan is appropriate to the species, care setting, and population being discussed.
- The human reference lifespan is a comparison scale selected by the visitor, not a universal legal or medical standard.
- The proportional mapping is linear and deliberately does not model faster maturity in early life.
- A bird can live beyond the entered reference lifespan; the percentage then reports more than 100 percent of that reference.
