Formula and methodology
Formula: W = F * d; P = W / t.
Work is force applied along the direction of motion times distance. Power is how fast that work is done: the same work in half the time needs twice the power.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Constant force along motion — N; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
- Distance moved — m; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
- Time taken — s; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Constant force along motion | 100 |
| Distance moved | 5 |
| Time taken | 10 |
Work: 500 J; power: 50 W.
Assumptions and limits
- Force is constant and parallel to displacement; angled forces need the cosine component.
- Time is positive; SI units give joules and watts.
- Efficiency losses (heat, friction) are excluded.
