Weight Change Arithmetic Timeline — result sheet
Compare two adult body weights and calculate the arithmetic duration at a user-assumed weekly change, without claiming that the pace, target, or timeline is safe or physiologically predictable.

Formula and methodology
Formula: Weeks = abs(targetWeight - currentWeight) / weeklyChange; signed weight difference = targetWeight - currentWeight.
This is distance divided by rate applied to a user-chosen weight difference. It returns zero weeks when the two weights match and distinguishes gain from loss. NIH research describes dynamic, nonlinear body-weight responses, so this straight-line calculation cannot predict an individual's outcome or validate a pace.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Age — years; Adult-only comparison; not a treatment or nutrition planner.; minimum 18; maximum 100
- Current weight — kg; minimum 25; maximum 350
- Comparison weight — kg; A value you supply, not an endorsed target.; minimum 25; maximum 350
- Assumed weekly change magnitude — kg/week; Positive arithmetic assumption for either direction. The input range does not establish a safe rate.; minimum 0.05; maximum 1
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Age | 32 |
| Current weight | 82 |
| Comparison weight | 72 |
| Assumed weekly change magnitude | 0.5 |
Arithmetic duration: 20.00 weeks; weight difference: -10.00 kg; direction: Loss.
Assumptions and limits
- For adults only. The supplied comparison weight and weekly rate are arithmetic inputs, not a safe target, recommended rate, diagnosis, or treatment plan.
- A constant rate is assumed solely for division; real changes in weight are nonlinear and affected by physiology, fluids, health, and other factors.
- No calorie intake, energy deficit, or diet prescription is calculated. Pregnancy, breastfeeding, eating disorders, and clinical weight management require professional assessment.
