Formula and methodology
Formula: speed m/min=speed km/h×1000/60; VO2=0.1×speed+1.8×speed×grade+3.5; kcal=VO2×mass×minutes/200.
The equation exposes speed and grade rather than assigning one generic calorie number to every walk. Negative grades are allowed for exploration, but the result remains an estimate of modeled oxygen cost.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
