Formula and methodology
Formula: WACC = D/(D+E) × rd(1 − T) + E/(D+E) × re.
WACC is a weighted estimate of the cost of debt and equity capital. This version exposes the capital weights and after-tax debt cost, while making clear that the tax rate is entered by the visitor and is not inferred from the selected country context.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Debt value — currency units; minimum 0; maximum 1.0E+18
- Equity value — currency units; minimum 0; maximum 1.0E+18
- Pre-tax cost of debt — %; minimum -100; maximum 1000
- Cost of equity — %; minimum -100; maximum 1000
- Tax rate assumption — %; minimum 0; maximum 100
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Debt value | 400000 |
| Equity value | 600000 |
| Pre-tax cost of debt | 6 |
| Cost of equity | 12 |
| Tax rate assumption | 25 |
Debt is 40% of capital, equity is 60%, after-tax debt cost is 4.5%, and WACC is 9%.
Assumptions and limits
- The debt and equity values use the same valuation date and capital-structure definition.
- The tax rate is a user-entered modeling assumption for the debt tax shield, not a country tax lookup or legal result.
- Preferred shares, flotation costs, changing capital structure, and multiple debt tranches are outside this two-source screening model.
