Formula and methodology
Formula: Gross area = wall length×height×wall count; net area = gross area−openings; order area = net area×(1+waste/100); panels = ceil(order area/panel coverage).
The estimate separates gross wall area, openings, panel coverage, and a visible waste allowance. Panel coverage must come from the selected product and installation orientation; trim and accessory quantities are not inferred.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Wall length — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Wall height — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Similar walls — minimum 1; maximum 1000
- Total opening area — m²; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Panel coverage per piece — m²; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Waste allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Wall length | 10 |
| Wall height | 2.5 |
| Similar walls | 4 |
| Total opening area | 8 |
| Panel coverage per piece | 0.7 |
| Waste allowance | 10 |
Net area = 92 m²; order area = 101.2 m²; panels = 145 at 0.7 m² coverage each.
Assumptions and limits
- All walls are treated as equal rectangles with the same length and height.
- Opening area is the combined area removed from those walls and cannot exceed gross wall area.
- Panel overlap, starter strips, corners, trim, gables, soffits, labor, local installation rules, and product-specific coverage are outside the model.
