Formula and methodology
Formula: Estimated yield per cycle = growing area × entered yield per area unit; planned yield = yield per cycle × harvest cycles.
Yield data can be reported per plant, per row, per square foot, or per square metre. This calculator keeps the area basis and yield label visible and lets the visitor bring a crop- and region-specific estimate from a seed packet, extension table, trial, or farm record.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Growing area — selected area unit; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
- Area basis for the yield rate — 3 choices
- Expected yield per selected area unit — yield units; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Planned harvest cycles — minimum 1; maximum 1000
- Yield label — 4 choices
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Growing area | 100 |
| Area basis for the yield rate | squareFeet |
| Expected yield per selected area unit | 0.5 |
| Planned harvest cycles | 2 |
| Yield label | kg |
An entered rate of 0.5 kg per square foot over 100 square feet gives 50 kg per cycle and 100 kg across two planned cycles.
Assumptions and limits
- The entered yield rate uses the same area basis selected for the growing area.
- Harvest cycles are separate planned cycles and are multiplied linearly.
- The yield label is descriptive only; the tool does not convert kilograms to pounds or items to mass.
- Actual yields vary with crop variety, spacing, soil, climate, pests, disease, irrigation, harvest timing, and management.
- The result is a planning estimate and not a guarantee of food supply, revenue, or marketable grade.
- Use local extension recommendations and actual records when making a production or food-security decision.
