Formula and methodology
Formula: ln(P₂/P₁) = −ΔHvap/R × (1/T₂ − 1/T₁).
The estimate changes vapor pressure from one known temperature-pressure point while holding enthalpy of vaporization constant.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Reference temperature — K; minimum 1; maximum 3000
- Reference vapor pressure — Pa; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
- Enthalpy of vaporization — J/mol; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Target temperature — K; minimum 1; maximum 3000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Reference temperature | 373.15 |
| Reference vapor pressure | 101325 |
| Enthalpy of vaporization | 40650 |
| Target temperature | 363.15 |
Estimated vapor pressure ≈ 70,636 Pa.
Assumptions and limits
- Temperatures are in kelvin and pressures are absolute pascals.
- The vapor is dilute enough for the approximation and enthalpy of vaporization does not change materially over the interval.
- Mixture activity, critical behavior, boiling-point data fitting, and nonideal vapor corrections are not modeled.
