Formula and methodology
Formula: Remove floor(n×trim percent/100) observations from each tail, then average the remainder.
A trimmed mean reduces the influence of extreme low and high values while showing how many observations were actually removed.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Data values — Comma-separated finite numbers.
- Trim from each tail — %; minimum 0; maximum 49.9
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Data values | 1, 2, 3, 100, 101 |
| Trim from each tail | 20 |
Trim 1 from each tail; trimmed mean =35.
Assumptions and limits
- Values are numeric and ordered only for the trimming step.
- The same whole-observation count is removed from each tail.
- The result is descriptive and does not replace a study-specific robust method.
