Formula and methodology
Formula: Rectangular-grid density = 10,000 m² per hectare ÷ (row spacing × in-row spacing); theoretical trees = density × selected hectares.
This calculator describes the idealized density of a rectangular planting grid. It reports the continuous density before rounding and a whole-tree planning count for the selected area, making the geometry clear without claiming that a site can physically use every square meter. Headlands, paths, boundaries, slope, service access, pollination design, and species requirements are deliberately excluded.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Planting area — ha; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Row spacing — m; minimum 0.001; maximum 100000
- In-row tree spacing — m; minimum 0.001; maximum 100000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Planting area | 1 |
| Row spacing | 4 |
| In-row tree spacing | 3 |
A 4 m by 3 m grid represents 833.333 trees per hectare; for one hectare the rounded planning count is 834 trees.
Assumptions and limits
- One hectare is treated as 10,000 square meters and the layout is a regular rectangular grid.
- Row and in-row spacing are center-to-center distances measured in meters.
- The whole-tree result is a theoretical planning scale, not a recommendation about species, rootstock, site carrying capacity, or legal planting density.
