Formula and methodology
Formula: Converted torque = value x newton-meters per source unit / newton-meters per target unit.
Torque is force multiplied by a perpendicular lever arm, so a torque conversion must preserve both the force definition and the distance unit. The kernel uses newton-meters as its base, with pound-force and kilogram-force factors kept distinct from mass units. It compares magnitudes only and does not determine bolt preload, tightening procedure, or component strength.
