Formula and methodology
Formula: Base volume = length × width × depth; order volume = base volume × (1 + waste/100); mass in tonnes = order volume × unit weight in kg/m³ ÷ 1000; cost = tonnes × price per tonne.
The selected material is a label, while the entered unit weight remains the controlling physical input because real aggregates vary with grading, moisture, compaction, and supplier. Dimensions are in meters and density is in kilograms per cubic meter, which makes the conversion to metric tonnes explicit.

Assumptions and limits
- Length, width, and depth are entered in meters and the unit weight is entered in kilograms per cubic meter.
- The material occupies a rectangular prism with one average depth.
- The unit weight is a supplied or measured planning value; it must be replaced with the supplier's documented value for an order.
- The allowance covers settlement, handling, uneven subgrade, and waste but is not a compaction specification.
- One metric tonne is treated as 1,000 kilograms.
