Formula and methodology
Formula: Times interest earned = earnings before interest and taxes / interest expense.
Times interest earned, also called an interest coverage ratio, compares EBIT with interest expense for a selected period. A result of 6 means the entered EBIT is six times the entered interest expense. The ratio is descriptive and does not account for taxes, principal, cash timing, covenants, or a lender's underwriting policy.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
