Formula and methodology
Formula: Zero-based frame index = (((hours × 60 + minutes) × 60 + seconds) × frame rate) + frame; one-based count = index + 1.
A timecode names a position by complete hours, minutes, seconds, and the remaining frame within that second. Converting the complete seconds to frames and adding the remaining frame produces a reproducible timeline index.

The timecode is frame index 12,373 (or frame count 12,374 when counting from 1).
Assumptions and limits
- The frame rate is an integer frames-per-second value from 1 to 240 and is constant throughout the timeline.
- Minutes and seconds are normalized components from 0 through 59.
- The frame field is zero-based and must be lower than the selected frame rate.
- The result uses non-drop-frame arithmetic and does not apply a starting timecode offset.
- Variable-frame-rate media, timecode metadata, edit decision lists, and source-specific numbering conventions are outside this worksheet.
- A one-based count is shown for people counting the first frame as frame 1; software timelines commonly use the zero-based index.
