Formula and methodology
Formula: Growth factor=Π(1+rᵢ); cumulative return=growth factor−1; annualized=growth factor^(periods per year/n)−1.
Compounding each period avoids averaging returns arithmetically and makes the path of the supplied returns visible.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Period returns — Comma-separated decimal returns such as 0.10 for 10%.
- Periods per year — minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 10000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Period returns | 0.10, -0.05, 0.08 |
| Periods per year | 1 |
Cumulative return ≈12.98%; annualized return ≈4.15%.
Assumptions and limits
- Returns are decimal holding-period returns and each 1+rᵢ is positive.
- Each listed period has the same length for annualization.
- Fees, cash flows, leverage, taxes, and benchmark comparison are not modeled.
