Formula and methodology
Formula: T/W = thrust/weight; excess thrust = T − W; with m = W/g, ideal acceleration = (T − W)/(W/g).
Thrust-to-weight ratio is a force ratio, not a universal aircraft-performance promise. The page reports the ratio and excess force, then shows the simplified acceleration that follows only when drag and other forces are deliberately left out.
