Formula and methodology
Formula: Pitch in inches = 1/TPI; pitch in millimeters = 25.4/TPI; lead = pitch×number of starts.
Pitch describes the axial spacing of adjacent threads, while lead describes the axial advance in one revolution. For a single-start thread they are equal; a multi-start thread advances by several pitches per turn.
