Formula and methodology
Formula: Effective available time = (shift time − planned non-production time) × shifts; takt time = effective time ÷ demand.
Takt time is the customer-demand pace that production must match. It uses effective scheduled time, subtracting planned breaks or meetings, but it does not hide unplanned downtime or assume that a process is capable of meeting the target.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.

Five 450-minute effective shifts for 1,200 units produce a takt time of 1.875 minutes, or 112.5 seconds per unit.
Assumptions and limits
- All time and demand inputs refer to the same planning period after shifts are normalized.
- Planned breaks, meetings, and cleanups are excluded; unplanned downtime, changeovers, quality losses, and staffing constraints require separate analysis.
- Takt time is a demand rhythm, not a cycle-time guarantee or a production-capacity approval.
