Formula and methodology
Formula: Planned tacos = ceil(guests×tacos per guest×(1+allowance/100)); shell packs = ceil(planned tacos/shells per pack); filling mass = planned tacos×filling per taco; topping mass = planned tacos×toppings per taco.
The calculator first creates a whole-taco target after the visible planning allowance, then rounds shell packs upward. Filling and topping quantities are kept as separate mass estimates so the visitor can replace the per-taco assumptions with their own recipe.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.

- Guests — people; minimum 1; maximum 1000000
- Tacos per guest — tacos; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000

- Filling per taco — g/taco; minimum 0; maximum 100000
- Combined toppings per taco — g/taco; minimum 0; maximum 100000
- Planning allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Guests | 12 |
| Tacos per guest | 3 |
| Shells per pack | 12 |
| Filling per taco | 70 |
| Combined toppings per taco | 45 |

Assumptions and limits
- Guests and shell-pack counts are whole planning quantities; per-person portions are user-entered assumptions.
- Filling and topping values are combined recipe masses per taco and are converted from grams to kilograms for the summary.
- The allowance covers leftovers and uncertainty but does not model appetite, dietary restrictions, menu sides, or food waste behavior.
- This is a quantity planner, not nutrition, allergen, food-safety, or catering-law advice.
