Formula and methodology
Formula: Digit sum = d1 + d2 + ... + dk for the decimal digits of the absolute value of the input.
The input remains text so a long integer is not rounded before its digits are inspected. A leading plus or minus sign does not contribute to the sum.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Whole number — Enter an optional sign followed by decimal digits; spaces and decimals are not accepted.
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Whole number | 12345 |
The sum of the digits of 12345 is 15.
Assumptions and limits
- The input is a signed base-10 whole number.
- The sign is ignored when adding digits.
- The input is limited to 100 characters and does not accept decimal points, separators, or scientific notation.
