Formula and methodology
Formula: distance km=steps×stride cm/100000; estimated kcal=distance×body mass×energy factor.
The calculator separates the step-to-distance conversion from the energy assumption. This makes it useful for comparing stride scenarios while keeping the calorie factor adjustable and clearly labeled.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Number of steps — minimum 1; maximum 1000000
- Average stride length — cm; minimum 1; maximum 300
- Body mass — kg; minimum 20; maximum 350
- Energy factor — kcal/kg/km; minimum 0.1; maximum 2
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Number of steps | 10000 |
| Average stride length | 75 |
| Body mass | 70 |
| Energy factor | 0.5 |
10,000 steps at a 75 cm stride is 7.50 km and about 262.50 kcal under the entered factor.
Assumptions and limits
- Every step uses the same average stride length.
- The energy factor is supplied by the user and is not a measured metabolic rate.
- Terrain, speed, grade, gait, and stops are not included in the factor automatically.
