Formula and methodology
Formula: Surface length = steps×(tread depth+riser height)+landing length; surface area = surface length×stair width; order area = area×(1+waste/100); roll length = order area/roll width.
The estimate unfolds each tread and riser as separate rectangular surface lengths and adds an entered landing. It is intended for a straight-run quantity check; actual runner layout, nosing, returns, seams, pattern matching, and installation technique can change the material requirement.

Assumptions and limits
- Every step has the same tread depth, riser height, and carpet width.
- The landing is represented by a single additional linear length and the roll is treated as a continuous rectangular source.
- Nosing wraps, side cuts, pattern direction, seams, underlay, adhesive, landings beyond the entered length, and local installation practice are not modeled.
