Formula and methodology
Formula: Normalize the selected spring rate to N/m, then divide by each target unit's N/m factor: 1 N/mm = 1,000 N/m; 1 lbf/in = 175.126835 N/m; 1 lbf/ft = 14.593903 N/m; 1 kip/in = 175,126.835 N/m; 1 kgf/mm = 9,806.65 N/m; and 1 J/m² = 1 N/m.
A spring rate is force per displacement, so the safest conversion keeps that compound unit visible instead of treating kilograms as a force without explanation. The converter normalizes every entered value through N/m and presents the same stiffness in several commonly encountered forms. The kgf/mm option means kilogram-force per millimetre; it is not a mass-per-length unit.

Assumptions and limits
- The entered quantity is a nonnegative linear spring stiffness and all outputs describe the same idealized force-per-displacement property.
- Pound-force is converted with standard gravity and inch/foot lengths use exact SI definitions; kilogram-force is a force unit based on standard gravity.
- J/m² is shown because joule per square metre is dimensionally equal to newton per metre, not because it represents a different spring behavior.
- The tool converts units only; it does not infer a spring's force-deflection curve, preload, fatigue life, damping, or safe travel.
