Formula and methodology
Formula: Rₛ = Rᵤ/M, with Rᵤ = 8.31446261815324 J/(mol·K) and M converted to kg/mol.
The specific gas constant is the universal molar gas constant divided by the gas's molar mass. It lets the ideal-gas relation be written per unit mass, for example p=ρRₛT, without pretending that every gas has the same mass-specific behavior.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Molar mass — g/mol; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Molar mass | 28.97 |
Air-like molar mass gives Rₛ ≈ 287.05 J/(kg·K) = 0.28705 kJ/(kg·K).
Assumptions and limits
- The entered molar mass is the average molar mass of the gas or mixture and is converted from g/mol to kg/mol.
- The universal gas constant is the CODATA value shown in the source metadata.
- The result is an ideal-gas constant; real-gas departures, humidity, mixtures, and temperature-dependent composition are not inferred.
