Formula and methodology
Formula: Snow force = pressure×area×scenario factor; because 1 kPa = 1 kN/m², force in kilonewtons = pressure in kPa×area in m²×factor.
This calculator intentionally accepts snow pressure as an explicit input instead of looking up a country, altitude, exposure, roof-shape, or code value. It converts that supplied pressure into a resultant force for a simple plan-area scenario and does not approve a structure.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Roof plan area — m²; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100000000
- Entered snow pressure — kPa; minimum 0; maximum 100000
- Scenario factor — ×; minimum 0; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Roof plan area | 120 |
| Entered snow pressure | 1.5 |
| Scenario factor | 1 |
The entered scenario produces 180 kN of total roof snow force.
Assumptions and limits
- The entered pressure is already the appropriate uniform design or scenario pressure for the intended context and is expressed in kilopascals.
- The roof is represented by its plan area and the factor scales the supplied pressure uniformly.
- Ground snow maps, drift, sliding snow, roof slope, thermal condition, exposure, importance, load combinations, member capacity, and building code compliance are not modeled.
