Formula and methodology
Formula: Simpson concentration D=Σ[nᵢ(nᵢ−1)]/[N(N−1)]; Gini-Simpson diversity=1−D.
The index gives more weight to common categories, so concentration and diversity move in opposite directions for the same counts.
