Formula and methodology
Formula: For adding tax: tax = base x taxRate / 100; total = base + tax. For removing tax: base = total / (1 + taxRate / 100); tax = total - base.
Removing an included percentage tax requires division by one plus the rate, not subtracting that percentage of the inclusive total. The primary result is the inclusive total in Add mode and the pre-tax base in Remove mode; tax is shown separately in both cases.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract

- Calculation mode — 2 choices
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Amount | 100 |

Assumptions and limits
- A single user-entered tax percentage applies to the entire base amount, with no exemptions, thresholds, multiple compounding taxes, or location rules.
- The default is illustrative, not a live or official rate. The tool does not determine tax liability, legal applicability, or filing obligations.
- Use one consistent currency. Calculations retain full precision without imposing jurisdiction-specific invoice or item-rounding rules.
