Formula and methodology
Formula: For a shallow parabolic cable, midspan sag f = wL²/(8H); vertical support reaction V = wL/2; approximate support tension T = √(H²+V²); support angle = arctan(V/H).
This calculator makes the load, span, and horizontal tension explicit and uses the common shallow-sag parabolic model. It is a first-pass geometry and statics estimate, not a cable design, clearance approval, or utility-line safety calculation.

- The parabolic approximation is intended for a relatively shallow sag; a full catenary or structural model may be needed when the sag is large or the load follows the cable rather than its horizontal projection.
