Formula and methodology
Formula: Area = π(diameter/2)²; circumference = π×diameter; net fence = circumference−gate opening; order fence = net fence×(1+waste/100); panels = ceil(order fence/panel length).
This circular-layout calculator separates the interior area from the fence length and the gate opening. It is a material-planning estimate and does not select panel height, footing, anchoring, animal-safety features, or site drainage.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Pen diameter — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Gate opening — m; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Panel length — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Extra allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Pen diameter | 18 |
| Gate opening | 3 |
| Panel length | 3 |
| Extra allowance | 5 |
Area ≈ 254.469 m²; net fence ≈ 53.549 m; order length ≈ 56.227 m; panels = 19.
Assumptions and limits
- The pen is a planar circle with one entered gate opening measured along the fence line.
- Panels can be arranged around the curved perimeter and the entered panel length is the purchasing unit.
- Terrain, gates, corners, bracing, posts, animal behavior, footing, and local agricultural requirements are not modeled.
