Formula and methodology
Formula: Number of bays = ceil(roof length / on-center spacing); truss count = number of bays + 1 for members at both ends; material cost = truss count × cost per truss; total = material cost + truss count × installation cost when selected.
Even spacing creates a simple count of intervals along the measured length, with one framing member at each end. This is a budgeting and quantity tool: a supplier or structural professional must still select a compliant truss design and verify support, loads, connections, transport, and local requirements.

Assumptions and limits
- The roof length is the line along which identical trusses are placed.
- The requested spacing is an on-center maximum target; rounding up the number of bays keeps the final spacing at or below the input spacing.
- One truss is placed at each end, so the count is one greater than the number of bays.
- All prices are entered in the visitor's currency and are not fetched from a regional market.
- Installation cost is modeled per truss and can be excluded from the displayed total.
