Formula and methodology
Formula: Tapered cross-section area = height × (base thickness + top thickness)/2; wall volume = area × length; order volume = volume × (1 + waste/100); mass = order volume × density.
The trapezoidal section keeps the change in wall thickness explicit instead of treating a tapered wall as a rectangular block.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Wall length — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Wall height — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Base thickness — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000
- Top thickness — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000
- Material density — kg/m³; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100000
- Waste allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Wall length | 10 |
| Wall height | 1.5 |
| Base thickness | 0.4 |
| Top thickness | 0.2 |
| Material density | 2400 |
| Waste allowance | 5 |
Base volume = 4.5 m³; order volume = 4.725 m³; estimated mass = 11,340 kg.
Assumptions and limits
- The wall has a constant trapezoidal cross-section along its length.
- Density is uniform and the allowance is applied to volume before mass is reported.
- Footings, drainage, soil pressure, sliding, overturning, reinforcement, stability, and structural approval are not modeled.
