Formula and methodology
Formula: e_s(t)=6.112 exp(17.62t/(243.12+t)); RH=100e_s(Td)/e_s(T).
The WMO water-phase saturation-vapor-pressure approximation calculates actual vapor pressure from dew point and divides it by saturation pressure at air temperature.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Air temperature — °C; minimum -45; maximum 60
- Dew-point temperature — °C; minimum -45; maximum 60
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Air temperature | 25 |
| Dew-point temperature | 15 |
Relative humidity is about 53.8%, with a vapor-pressure deficit near 14.6 hPa.
Assumptions and limits
- Both temperatures are in degrees Celsius, the dew point does not exceed the air temperature, and the WMO water-phase approximation is used from −45 to 60 °C.
- The calculation represents near-surface moist air and does not apply an upper-air pressure correction or ice-phase formula.
- Humidity is an atmospheric estimate; it does not diagnose mold, comfort, drying time, health, or material safety by itself.
