Formula and methodology
Formula: Relative frequency=observed count/total count; percentage=relative frequency×100; complement=1−relative frequency.
The ratio places one category or outcome on the whole-sample scale and shows what remains outside it.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Observed count — minimum 0; maximum 1.0E+15
- Total count — minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1.0E+15
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Observed count | 24 |
| Total count | 60 |
Relative frequency = 0.4; percentage = 40%; complement = 60%.
Assumptions and limits
- Observed count and total count refer to the same mutually defined population or sample.
- The count may be fractional for a weighted-frequency scenario, but ordinary counts should be whole numbers.
- Sampling bias, uncertainty intervals, and causal interpretation are not inferred.
