Formula and methodology
Formula: Normalize to [0, 360°) or [0, 2π); reference angle is the acute angle to the x-axis, with axis cases reported separately.
A reference angle is the positive acute angle between the terminal side of an angle and the x-axis. Normalizing first makes negative angles and angles beyond one revolution easy to interpret while preserving the trigonometric signs through the quadrant.
