Formula and methodology
Formula: target time=current time×(target distance/current distance)^exponent.
The power-law projection makes the endurance assumption explicit. Changing the exponent lets a user compare a conservative or optimistic scenario instead of treating one constant as universal.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Completed distance — km; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 10000
- Completed time — minutes; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100000
- Target distance — km; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 10000
- Endurance exponent — minimum 0.5; maximum 2
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Completed distance | 5 |
| Completed time | 25 |
| Target distance | 10 |
| Endurance exponent | 1.06 |
The model projects a 10K time of about 52.12 minutes.
Assumptions and limits
- Both distances use kilometres and both times use minutes.
- The exponent is a model choice, not a physiological measurement.
- Training, terrain, weather, pacing, and injury risk are not predicted.
