Formula and methodology
Formula: One rectangular container volume = length × width × depth; convert cubic centimeters to liters by dividing by 1,000, multiply by container count and fill percentage, then bags = ceiling(required liters ÷ bag liters).
This tool distinguishes a container’s geometric capacity from the amount of mix the gardener intends to place in it. A fill percentage can leave headspace for watering and settling without changing the container dimensions. It is a volume-and-purchase estimate only; it does not select a potting recipe or decide how much root space a plant needs.
