Formula and methodology
Formula: One-hole volume = π(d/2)²h; placed concrete = one-hole volume × count × fill fraction; order volume = placed concrete × (1 + waste/100).
The fill fraction lets a visitor describe a post hole that is not filled to its full geometric depth while keeping the allowance explicit.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Post-hole count — minimum 1; maximum 1000000
- Hole diameter — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000
- Hole depth — m; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000
- Concrete fill fraction — minimum 0; maximum 1
- Waste allowance — %; minimum 0; maximum 1000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Post-hole count | 10 |
| Hole diameter | 0.3 |
| Hole depth | 0.7 |
| Concrete fill fraction | 0.9 |
| Waste allowance | 10 |
Placed concrete ≈ 0.445 m³; order volume ≈ 0.489 m³.
Assumptions and limits
- Every hole is cylindrical with the same diameter and depth.
- The fill fraction is a planning input between zero and one and is not a recommendation for embedment or footing design.
- Post dimensions, soil, frost, reinforcement, drainage, uplift, wind, strength, bags, delivery, and local requirements are not modeled.
