Formula and methodology
Formula: Total focus = work minutes × sessions. For each break between sessions, use a long break when the completed-session count is a multiple of the long-break interval; otherwise use a short break. Total planned time = preparation + focus + all scheduled breaks + wrap-up.
This is a schedule planner, not a promise that one timing pattern improves every person’s productivity. It makes the visitor’s work interval, break lengths, session count, and boundary time visible so the plan can be adapted to study, writing, chores, or focused work.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Focused work per session — minutes; minimum 1; maximum 240
- Short break — minutes; minimum 0; maximum 120
- Long break — minutes; minimum 0; maximum 240
- Number of focus sessions — sessions; minimum 1; maximum 100
- Long break after this many sessions — sessions; minimum 1; maximum 100
- Preparation time — minutes; minimum 0; maximum 120
- Wrap-up time — minutes; minimum 0; maximum 120
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Focused work per session | 25 |
| Short break | 5 |
| Long break | 20 |
| Number of focus sessions | 4 |
| Long break after this many sessions | 4 |
| Preparation time | 0 |
| Wrap-up time | 0 |
Four 25-minute focus sessions provide 100 minutes of focus. Three short breaks are scheduled between them, so the planned block is 115 minutes; the long break is not placed after the final session.
Assumptions and limits
- A focus session is a continuous block of the entered work duration.
- A break is scheduled only between two focus sessions, not after the final session.
- A long break replaces the short break when the completed-session count reaches the entered interval.
- Preparation and wrap-up are outside the focus-session total.
- The schedule does not measure attention, learning, productivity, fatigue, or task quality.
- Zero-minute breaks are allowed for a custom plan but may be unsuitable for sustained work.
- The classic 25/5 pattern is a convention that can be changed by the visitor.
- The plan assumes sessions are completed in order without overlapping timers.
- The schedule does not account for meals, meetings, commuting, interruptions, or accessibility needs.
- A visitor should adapt rest and workload to health, study, and workplace requirements.
