Formula and methodology
Formula: Rows = floor(bed width ÷ row spacing); plants per row = floor(bed length ÷ in-row spacing); population = rows × plants per row.
This is a deliberately simple rectangular-grid count. It tells the visitor how many complete spacing intervals fit along each orientation and does not silently add a half-spacing border, staggered geometry, access lane, or species rule. The floor operation makes the reported count whole and visible, while the unused edge distance can be inspected as a planning remainder.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.

Assumptions and limits
- Rows run along the bed length, with row centers separated across the bed width.
- A plant position is counted only when its center-to-center spacing fits completely in the corresponding dimension.
- The result is a layout estimate and does not prescribe crop spacing, root-zone area, thinning, succession planting, or a yield.
