Formula and methodology
Formula: Area of one pizza = π(d/2)²; order area = count×area; price per area = order price/order area. The lower price-per-area order gives more circular area for each currency unit.
Diameter is squared in the area formula, so a modest-looking increase in diameter can produce a much larger pizza. This comparison keeps pizza count and order price visible and evaluates the circular top area only; crust thickness, toppings, discounts, delivery fees, and appetite are separate decisions.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- First pizza diameter — length units; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100000
- First order count — pizzas; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- First order price — currency units; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
- Second pizza diameter — length units; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 100000
- Second order count — pizzas; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Second order price — currency units; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| First pizza diameter | 25 |
| First order count | 1 |
| First order price | 10 |
| Second pizza diameter | 35 |
| Second order count | 1 |
| Second order price | 15 |
The first order provides about 490.874 square units at 0.0204 price units per area; the second provides about 962.113 square units at 0.0156, so the second has the lower price per area.
Assumptions and limits
- Each pizza is modeled as a circle with the entered diameter.
- All diameters use one consistent length unit, so the area uses its square.
- Order price is entered in one consistent currency or price unit for both options; no exchange-rate conversion is performed.
- A zero price is allowed and produces zero price per area rather than a division error.
- The result compares geometric area, not edible yield, topping amount, crust preference, or nutrition.
- Counts may be fractional for planning scenarios, although a real order normally uses whole pizzas.
- Rounding is applied only to displayed values.
