Formula and methodology
Formula: Width in inches = pixels width/DPI; height in inches = pixels height/DPI; centimetres = inches×2.54; megapixels = width×height/1,000,000.
Pixel dimensions describe samples, not a fixed physical size. A chosen pixels-per-inch value supplies the scale needed to estimate the printed dimensions.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Pixel width — px; minimum 1; maximum 1000000000
- Pixel height — px; minimum 1; maximum 1000000000
- Print resolution — px/in; minimum 0.001; maximum 1000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Pixel width | 1920 |
| Pixel height | 1080 |
| Print resolution | 300 |
The image prints about 6.4 × 3.6 inches, or 16.26 × 9.14 cm, at 300 DPI.
Assumptions and limits
- DPI is treated as pixels per physical inch for the chosen output.
- The image is printed at the entered scale without cropping or resampling.
- Actual print quality also depends on viewing distance, printer behavior, and image content.
