Formula and methodology
Formula: Percentile rank=100×(count below+0.5×count equal)/n.
The midpoint-tie convention places a target halfway through observations equal to it, making the result reproducible for repeated values.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Data values — Comma-separated finite numbers.
- Target value — minimum -1000000000000; maximum 1000000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Data values | 10, 20, 20, 30, 40 |
| Target value | 30 |
Percentile rank =70%.
Assumptions and limits
- The list contains comparable numeric observations.
- Values equal to the target receive half credit in the rank.
- Weighted observations and alternate rank conventions are not modeled.
