Formula and methodology
Formula: Rating = [(a + b + c + d) ÷ 6] × 100, where a, b, c, and d are the four capped completion, yards, touchdown, and interception components.
The NFL passer rating is a fixed arithmetic statistic based on four passing components. Its 0-to-158.3 scale is useful for comparing passing lines under the same convention, but it excludes rushing, sacks, fumbles, opponent strength, and many parts of quarterback play.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Pass attempts — attempts; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000
- Completions — completions; minimum 0; maximum 1000000
- Passing yards — yards; minimum -10000000; maximum 1000000000
- Passing touchdowns — TDs; minimum 0; maximum 1000000

Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Pass attempts | 30 |
| Completions | 20 |
| Passing yards | 250 |
| Passing touchdowns | 2 |
| Interceptions | 1 |
The line produces an NFL-style passer rating of about 97.22.
Assumptions and limits
- The input line uses pass attempts as the denominator for each rate.
- Component values are capped at the official 0 and 2.375 bounds.
- The result follows the NFL passer-rating convention and should not be confused with a total quarterback-performance grade.
