Formula and methodology
Formula: Operating cash flow ratio = operating cash flow ÷ current liabilities; percentage coverage = ratio × 100.
This liquidity-oriented ratio compares cash generated by operating activity with the current-liability balance used as the denominator. The calculator accepts a prepared operating-cash-flow figure and does not confuse revenue or accounting profit with cash. A ratio is a snapshot or period comparison, not a guarantee that every bill will be paid on time.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Operating cash flow — currency units per period; minimum -1000000000000; maximum 1000000000000
- Current liabilities — currency units; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Operating cash flow | 180000 |
| Current liabilities | 120000 |
Operating cash flow ratio = 1.50×, equivalent to 150% coverage of the entered current liabilities.
Assumptions and limits
- Operating cash flow and current liabilities use compatible reporting scope, currency, and period conventions.
- Current liabilities must be positive so the ratio is defined.
- Operating cash flow is entered as a prepared statement amount; it is not reconstructed from profit or working-capital movements.
- The denominator is the entered current-liability balance and does not model due dates or payment priority.
- Seasonality, restricted cash, revolver access, covenant definitions, taxes, and classification policies are not inferred.
- The result is a descriptive ratio and not a solvency verdict, credit approval, or accounting assurance.
