Formula and methodology
Formula: Inverting gain Av = −Rf/Rin; non-inverting gain Av = 1 + Rf/Rg; Vout = AvVin.
The selected ideal topology determines how the same two resistors are interpreted. Reporting the gain and predicted output together makes the sign inversion and the non-inverting unity term visible.
This result follows the calculator's declared inputs, precision, validation boundaries, and model limits.
Input contract
- Amplifier configuration — 2 choices
- Input voltage — V; minimum -1000000; maximum 1000000
- Input resistor Rin, or ground resistor Rg — Ω; minimum 1.0E-6; maximum 1000000000
- Feedback resistor Rf — Ω; minimum 0; maximum 1000000000
Worked example
| Input | Value |
|---|---|
| Amplifier configuration | nonInverting |
| Input voltage | 0.2 |
| Input resistor Rin, or ground resistor Rg | 1000 |
| Feedback resistor Rf | 10000 |
Gain = 11× and ideal output = 2.2 V.
Assumptions and limits
- The op amp is ideal in its linear closed-loop region with negative feedback connected as described.
- The resistor values are positive and the output is not clipped by supply rails or slew-rate limits.
- Input bias, offset, common-mode range, bandwidth, loading, stability, and saturation are not modeled.
