Formula and methodology
Formula: Geometric volume = area × depth; with depth converted from centimeters to meters, order volume = geometric volume × (1 + allowance/100), and bags = ceiling(order volume in liters ÷ bag liters).
The page keeps the settled layer depth separate from the material allowance. That makes the geometry reproducible and prevents an extra percentage from being mistaken for a thicker layer. It reports both the unadjusted volume and the rounded bag count, while leaving the choice of mulch type and appropriate depth to the gardener and local guidance.

Assumptions and limits
- The covered area is rectangular and the layer has a uniform entered depth.
- One cubic meter equals 1,000 liters, and the bag volume is the labeled volume used for purchasing arithmetic.
- The allowance covers handling, settling, irregular edges, and unavailable remnants; it is not a guarantee of coverage or a horticultural depth recommendation.
