Formula and methodology
Formula: Wall volume = LHW; unit count = ceil(LH/[(unit length + joint)(unit height + joint)]); mortar = max(0, wall volume − unit count × unit length × unit height × wall thickness) × (1 + waste/100).
This is a geometric cavity estimate: it subtracts idealized solid-unit volume from wall volume and then applies an explicit allowance.
