Formula and methodology
Formula: Midpoint = ((x₁+x₂)/2, (y₁+y₂)/2); Δx = x₂−x₁; Δy = y₂−y₁; segment length = √(Δx²+Δy²).
The midpoint is the coordinate average of two endpoints. The page also exposes the horizontal and vertical changes and the segment length so a visitor can check the point calculation without confusing midpoint with slope or an endpoint coordinate.

Assumptions and limits
- The coordinates are Cartesian values in one consistent coordinate system.
- The segment is the straight Euclidean segment between the two entered points.
- The midpoint is valid even when coordinates are negative or the segment is vertical or horizontal.
- Coordinate differences and length use the coordinate unit; the midpoint uses the same unit.
- The tool does not infer a map projection, geographic datum, bearing, or physical scale.
- The two points may coincide; that produces a zero-length segment and the shared point as the midpoint.
- Large coordinates are bounded to keep intermediate arithmetic finite and reviewable.
- Keep the endpoint order when interpreting the signed Δx and Δy values.
