Formula and methodology
Formula: Volume per piece = length×width×thickness/1000; mass per piece = volume×density; total mass = mass per piece×piece count; tonnes = kilograms/1,000.
This is a generic rectangular-stock model: density is an input so the same geometry can be used for steel, aluminum, copper, or another material without silently selecting an alloy. It estimates nominal mass and does not replace a supplier's weighed piece, tolerance, coating, or grade information.

Assumptions and limits
- Length and width are in meters, thickness is in millimeters, and density is the nominal bulk density of the selected material.
- Every piece has the same rectangular dimensions and the piece count is a positive whole number.
- Tolerances, holes, cutouts, coatings, oxidation, grade composition, surface finish, and supplier rounding are not modeled.
